Alternative Methods Demonstration Projects

The Alternative Methods Demonstration Program (AMDP) allows 340B particpating entities to operate projects and programs outside of Section 340B guidelines when the current guidelines do not provide benefits to the covered entities.

The main purpose of AMDP is to increase access to 340B priced pharmaceuticals. Entities may determine that current methods of utilizing the 340B Program are not adequate. Examples of inadequacies may include:

  • Inconvenient hours of operation for current pharmacy site
  • Lone pharmacy location is not convenient to all patients served
  • Wide geographic expanse of patients served
  • High administrative costs
  • Pharmacy services for 340B covered entities currently do not exist

Projects that involve one or a combination of the following features can be considered:

  • The development of a network of covered entities,
  • The use of multiple contracted pharmacy services sites, or
  • The utilization of a contracted pharmacy to supplement in-house pharmacy services.

Additonal information can be found on the Office of Pharmacy Affaris web site at: http://www.hrsa.gov/opa/alternativemethods.htm.  Questions can be directed to the PSSC at 800-628-6297 or pssc@aphanet.org.

Please note: The Alternative Method Demonstration Projects are not grant funded activities and there is no deadline for submission of proposals.

Three copies of written proposals should be submitted to the Office of Pharmacy Affairs, Healthcare Systems Bureau, 5600 Fishers Lane, Parklawn Building, Mail Stop 10C-03, Rockville, Maryland 208557.
