The Alternative Methods Demonstration Program (AMDP)
allows 340B participating entities to operate projects
and programs outside of Section 340B guidelines.
AMDPs are used when
the current guidelines do not provide benefits to
the covered entities.
The
main purpose of AMDP is to increase access to 340B
priced pharmaceuticals. Entities may determine that
current methods of utilizing the 340B Program are
not adequate. Examples of inadequacies may include:
- Inconvenient hours of operation for
current pharmacy site
- Lone pharmacy location is not convenient
to all patients served
- Wide geographic expanse of patients
served
- High administrative costs
- Pharmacy services for 340B covered
entities currently do not exist
Projects
that involve one or a combination of the following
features can be considered:
- The development of a network of
covered entities,
- The use of multiple contracted pharmacy
services sites, or
- The utilization of a contracted
pharmacy to supplement in-house pharmacy services.
Additional
information can be found on the
Office of Pharmacy
Affairs website.
