What are the Comprehensive Pharmacy Grants?
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
awards grant funding to expand health services for
medically under-served populations. A significant
portion of the funding goes to federally-supported
community health center grantees to expand oral health,
mental health, substance abuse and pharmaceutical
services for under served communities.
The pharmacy component
of this grant opportunity program, Comprehensive Pharmacy
Services Networks, is managed by the Health Resources
and Services Administration (HRSA) Bureau of Primary
Health Care's (BPHC) Division of Health Center Development
(DHCD) through the guidance of the Office of Pharmacy
Affairs (OPA). Annually, the application guidance
is released to the public.
What purpose
do they serve?
The purpose of the Comprehensive Pharmacy Services
Network Grants is to encourage community health centers
to collaborate and develop innovative strategies for
enhancing health care delivery systems, improve clinical
outcomes, increase medication safety, and reduce health
disparities. The five areas of network activities
include: (1) planning, (2) development, (3) shared
integrated management information systems (SIMIS),
(4) integrated information and communication technology
(ICT), and (5) pharmacy network development. Core
areas of collaborative activity include: administrative,
clinical, managed care, finance, and information technology.
